      This opening par 4 rolls gently from left to right.  It is best to avoid the bunker that guards the left side of the fairway with its steep face.   You are left with a mid to low iron into a deep green with a false front guarded by a bunker on the right.  The hole affords a good opportunity to start your round with a solid par.

      The first of two par 5’s on the north course presents an opportunity to be hit in two if a well struck drive avoids the two bunkers on the right side of the fairway. For the strategist, a lay-up to the left side of the fairway opens the green up for the 3rd shot, while the longest of hitters must carry water and a deep bunker to a narrow green. You get what you deserve on this hole.

      This demanding par 4 plays directly into the prevailing winds. After a successful drive missing the bunkers on the left side, the fun begins. The green slopes right to left with many additional subtleties woven throughout. If you miss the green, you might find yourself in a deep bunker left, pine trees long, or mounds topped with thick rough right. Bring your short game to this hole.

      This is the first of two par 3’s on the north course. This hole plays into the prevailing winds making this 180-yard hole even longer. Despite the length, accuracy is a premium due to the “t” shaped green causing a shot missed right or left to be short sided. Pick the right club here and thank the golf gods that there is no water hazard.

      This par 5 allows a generous landing area off the tee. Don’t let the beauty from the elevated tee lull you to sleep however. The remainder of the hole is lined with a huge lake down the right side with a bay meandering in front of the green. Keeping the ball left after you drive is a safe bet also allowing better access to a treacherous front right pin location. Remember, par is your friend.

      This hole has a split fairway with bunkers separating the two. Taking the right fairway shortens the hole considerably but increases the risk of going in the water that lines the entire right side of the hole. The water is formidable on your second shot but the green picks up the slack from there. There is a severe slope from left to right adding speed to the already slick greens. Don’t bite off more than you can chew here.

      As with most beautiful par 3’s, they are wrought with peril and this hole is no different. This medium length hole has water left, right, and long. There is a bunker between the water and the green short left that catches shots destined for the water. Club selection is important, however, keeping your ball flight straight is the critical factor.

      This hole is straight forward but requires two solid shots to reach the green in regulation. From the tee, you hit up a moderate hill bisecting two bunkers on the left and trees pinching in on the right. Your approach is to a kidney shaped green affording many pin placements guarded by a bunker cutting deep into the green. Be careful of the press here.

      This hole descends the hill that was climbed on the previous hole providing a little reprieve before the turn. The clubhouse looms in the background as a safe haven, but before you can recharge the batteries, a test of nerves may be required. The huge green has many sections to it separated by humps and slopes. Hitting the right section may result in birdie but hitting the wrong section most certainly will not.

      This hole is a short but tricky dogleg right. Straight away are two deep bunkers catching drives with no fade. Long hitters are able to cut the corner but leave themselves a delicate pitch to a green that slopes away from them. The smart play is to leave yourself a club you can spin. Course management is the key here.

      This hole has an elevated tee that paints a picturesque view of the layout. It is easy to see the water hazard on the right with a long bunker buffer. Keeping it left is imperative but a long hit down the right side finds a peninsula that opens the green up for a safe approach. For the common approach from the left, the player must cross an inlet from a lake shared with the 6th hole. Trouble is abundant on this hole, however, a birdie can be had.

      The first par 5 on the south course is a long trek up a gradual slope making it a true 3 shot hole. If you are lucky enough to miss the bunkers right off the tee, a small pond lurks on the left side at the 175-yard marker catching a lay-up missed short and left. The best chance for birdie is from the right side on the 50-yard up and in.

      This par 4 has many challenges including bunkers that flank both sides of the fairway while the right side is accompanied by pine trees making it the most penal. A bunker long, and severe bunker short right to an elevated green, guards the approach shot. The drive is the key here but bring your sand game just in case.

      This par 3 is the longest on the golf course playing over 200-yards from the 2 of the 3 tees. If you want to run a shot up on the green, the front is accessible. A bunker frames the left side of the green while the right side is peppered with mounds and deep fescue. A par picks up a stroke on the field.

      Don’t look for a breather after the last hole, you won’t find it here. There is a gradual ascent the entire hole, reaching a deep green sloped from right to left. From the tee, you will see bunkers left and out-of-bounds to the right. On the approach, club selection is critical for the depth of the green. Be analytical and remember, an up and down from the right isn’t going to happen.

      This hole marks the last par 5 on the south course. An opportunity at birdie is realistic but you need to fit your drive into a narrow landing area between bunkers left and trees right. For long hitters, the green is open in front allowing a run-up shot but it is inviting danger at the same time. A pulled shot may find a bunker left protecting a small pond from certain disaster or a long bunker awaits you on the right side setting you up for what is considered the toughest shot in golf.

      This stunning par 3 is reminiscent of those you will see on a postcard. A lake frames the right side and short of this medium length hole while stadium mounds back the green. Wind sweeps off the lake making club selection a real challenge. For a player that just wants to hold on down the stretch, a bail out area is on the left. The green is not severe but it is bisected in the middle by a ridge producing two distinct greens in one. It’s always critical to take into account the wind, water, and pin location when making your club selection here.

      From an elevated tee, the 18th hole offers a beautiful panorama of a crescent shaped fairway embracing a lake with the clubhouse as the backdrop. A grove of trees is situated right of the fairway presenting a better option than left. Off the tee, a safe drive towards the aiming bunker leaves a long iron to a green guarded by a bunker right and water left. For the more adventurous, the 150-yard boulder provides an aiming line for those who wish to bite off a bit more water. While that risk invites more trouble, a successful drive will be left with a short iron and a great chance to finish with style.

      Take your par and run on this West Course opening hole. Accuracy is critical on this nine. On this dogleg right, a good tee shot will be played towards the right fairway bunker which sits through the fairway. Finding the fairway in this direction will leave a short iron to a large two-tiered green sloping from back to front. This green is very difficult and three putts are quite common.

      This is the more difficult Par 3 of the two on this West Nine. The tee shot here must carry the water and the deep front bunkers. The green surface is disguised and the hole tends to play a half club longer. The front and back of the green slope to the middle. Watch out for the right side of this hole as the hazard creeps in.

      This first Par 5 plays as the hardest hole on this West Nine. It’s a three shot hole for most, so play smart. A good tee shot here will favor the right side of the fairway, avoiding the water. The second shot should be played back to the left to avoid the large pond fronting the green. Two good shots will leave a middle, to short iron, to this large, sloping green. Missing this green to the right can be costly.

      This Par 4 is difficult but, if played correctly, can be conquered. The tee shot may tempt you to carry the bunkers, but keep your greed at bay. A good tee shot will be played to the generous fairway right of the bunkers. The green is very well protected and any shot that is to hold the green must come in high. If it’s unlikely you will hit a long approach on the green, play to the left front to manage an easier up and down. A long, deep collection area drops off the back left side of the green.

      This second Par 5 on the West Nine plays longer into the prevailing wind, but isn’t as demanding as the first. The tee shot is manageable to a generous fairway. From here do not let your ego take over. This is always a lay up hole. A well placed second shot will avoid the water on the left and negotiate the right fairway bunker. The third shot into the green will require a short iron most of the time. The green is very deep; be careful to avoid the falling slope off the left side.

      Take a deep breath. This is your first chance to relax of this demanding West Nine. Unless you have a bad case of the “lefts”, this short Par 3 plays to a large green and offers a great opportunity for par or better. If you mange to hit this green in regulation, a two putt is sometimes tough as the green is tiered and slopes heavily.

      This is the first of three Par 4’s to finish this West Nine. You know how they say, “A hole does not have to be long to be difficult.”? This is one of those holes. A good tee shot will avoid the right bunker and favor the left side. Your second shot here should be played to the middle of the green unless you feel like pin-seeking. This will be one of your shorter approaches but be careful to avoid the collection area right of the green.

      Welcome back to the demands of the West Nine. This par 4 tee shot will get your heart racing, again. This Hole is not long and demands good shot management. An accurate tee shot avoiding the water on the left will leave a middle to short iron into a large protected green. Try to keep the approach shot under the hole here, as most of the difficulty can be behind the hole and over the green.

      This home hole on the West Nine can arguably play the toughest. This is a long hole and the green is elevated and very well guarded in front. Avoid the fairway bunkers here or you’ll have no chance to hit the green in two. A well-struck tee shot can carry the right fairway bunker. Long hitters should be careful as the pond fronting the right side may come into play. All approach shots must come in high and long enough to avoid the front bunkers. The green slopes back to front and always challenges the flatstick.
